Harry Styles’s Fangirls Are The Future | Pop Feminist

Harry Styles released his solo album today, and Directioner fangirls aren’t the only ones excited about it. A group of older men are really vibing with Harry’s Bowie-inspired redirection — no pun intended. But with these new fans we’re seeing a lot of dismissive sexist commentary about his original “fangirls.” It’s time to take these haters down a notch.

  1. 1:20 "for no reason". there are reasons for everything. maybe with a little more research this would be a much more interesting video and discussion…

  2. It's so stupid! If the music is good it's good! Why should you be ashamed to be apart of that appreciation for good music. It makes absolute no sense. I swear, probably the dumbest thing I've ever heard.
If you don't like what it's like to be at a concert full of females who are excited about the artist and their music, don't go!

  3. i love harry so much and i really do believe that he's genuine and he's super nice and respectful not only to his (female) fans but to women in general. his album is rocking the charts and i'm really proud of him haha.

  4. I am in love with this show!! it's such an important conversation to be had, however, one thing I think would make it even better would be to have a man as a guest, just to really emphasize the idea that not only women can be feminists, and that, in order to get this message across, we need everyone to come together and accept the idea.

  5. so important that harry commented on the impact of teenage and female audiences. too many famous men are sooo eager to degrade the young women that pay their bills!

  6. this video has made me to unfollow teen vogue… maybe this topic is serious for teen girls.. I don't know but why the hell are you making it sound so serious? you are talking about nothing…there always will be young teenage girls crazy about boybands and this obsession will no be taken seriously because why should it.. that doesn't mean that people don't take them seriously when talking about serious stuff… this video is just another vague video about nothing.. when you want to encourage young girls to do something, do it like Tavi Gevinson and not just defending Harry Styles.. wake up!

  7. Harry Styles fangirls are all smelly white girls who don't get out the house unless its for starbucks or to get his autograph. Their future is not getting laid and having a dozen cats.

  8. anyone whos positive and adding good to the world are great. doesnt matter if you think theyre "too" into something lol people liking things is always valid and peoples emotions are always valid, regardless of your personal opinion.

  9. It honestly annoys me that people are surprised by Harry's music taste and talent. Like where have you been ? I'm not surprised at all of his greatness

  10. I believe everyone has opinions
even fans-girls of what they love
to hear in music, they have rights to listen to whatever music
they like to hear, but crying and being over possessed
    over a celebrities band boys
on dating life by atracking whoever
the band boys are dating is
really stupid is what I got
    a problem with fan-girls
but I don't take care what
music they like to listen to,
    everyone likes different music,
fan-girls are real people, just like us adults they are human beens not animals who likes to expressing music
they like I got no problem
    with that, but crying over
    some celebrities band boys
    on youtube videoes and in
    crowd is stupid especially
    fading in crowd concerts tour,
    over celebrities is kinda
sicking to watch and crazy to
    watch as well.

    That's what I got a problem with fan-girls.

    But fan-girls been around
    for over many decades
    look at Beatles, Jackson 5,
    Bee Gees, Queens, Temptation,
    Rolling Stones and so on,
    back in those days without
    internet wifi, social media
    there was fan-girls back in
    60's 70's 80's 90's now 2000's
    so fan-girls aren't new people
    they been around for many
    decades…

  11. i love that this is being talked about! im really tired of bands only being seen as legit once they get male fans, as if huge masses of female fans dont count, as if female opinions about music arent as important as male ones….

  12. I'm sooo pissed… I have more to say. So, this album is so good because is more Freddie Mercury and Bowie. So, One Direction music was trash, but now that he is imitating "real" musicians, those who are aproved by men instead of just "fangirls", everything is better, and now he's gonna be able to reach a bigger audience, because girls were never enough (btw, I really like Never Enough). And don't make me talk about Nolan… will Dunkirk pass the Bechdel test? I don't think so.

  13. So, it's necessary a guy's opinion for girls to feel validated? Is that what we are celebrating? Oh, a man said girls are important, that is important to girls. Stay calm, Malala Yousafzai, Harry Styles says girls are ok.

  14. This is so important!! whatever teenage girls like is imidiately dismissed by society. 1D, Justin Bieber, Twilight, Chick-flicks, Pretty Little liars etc. Music or cinema popular amongst teenage giirls is never nominated to awardshoes where the winner is chosen by a jury. Why is it that Justin Bieber was nominated to so many grammys for purpose when he got a wider audience, and not for the 4 albums he released before that?
